Dr. Dorene E. Carter is President & CEO of CHANA Project (the Child Health and Nutrition Access Project). She has over 25 years experience in nutrition and dietetics, with emphasis in public health and community nutrition. Dr. Carter’s passion for nutrition and a lifelong desire to fight hunger, malnutrition and improper eating habits leading to childhood obesity led her to establish the CHANA Project in 2002. The organization was later incorporated in as a nonprofit corporation in Florida in 2004. Dr. Carter served as Director of the Virgin Islands Consumer Services Administration for three-and-a-half years. Dr. Carter earned her doctorate in nutrition from the University of California, Berkeley. She completed her dietetic internship at the University of Chicago Hospitals and Clinics. Dr. Carter also earned a paralegal certificate from the University of the Virgin Islands, now UVI. She is a writer/author, speaker, workshop facilitator, lecturer and trainer.
